Fairport youths learn to sit

Young people in the Fairport area looking to earn a little extra money are signing up for Baby Sitter’s Training this month.

Organized in conjunction with the American Red Cross, the class offers tips on a wide array of topics for aspiring sitters.

The course is led by a Generation Today instructor, Anne Marie Messner, who is certified by the Red Cross. She will cover a variety of material from providing care to finding babysitting opportunities. In terms of care, she will cover best practices for playing with children at different ages, how to feed babies and toddlers, effective communication, and how to deal with negative behavior.

She will also talk about emergency situations, including creating safe environments, providing first aid for cuts, scrapes, and bumps, and basic responses for choking or unconscious children and infants.

The class will last for four and half hours, so it is recommended that attending youth bring a sack lunch and a snack. At the end of the day, participants will receive a certificate and a book bag with a special Logo Design as well as all of their course materials.

Baby Sitter’s Training will be held on January 14 from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm at the Fairport Public Library, located at 1 Fairport Village Landing. Cost is $55 and can be paid at the time of the course. Anyone interested in more info can contact the library or Generation Today.
