Keeping backyard chickens can be a sustainable practice that is also a lot of fun, and a Fairport workshop is set to give the inside scoop on the coop.
The Humane Society of Greater Rochester offers a variety of learning opportunities to the public, and one that’s on the way for January will offer an introduction to keeping chickens in a backyard. It can accommodate up to 20 learners, and a small registration fee is being charged.
While the activity is geared towards potential flock owners, it may also be of interest to those just curious about these friendly and social birds. The basics of their care, housing, feeding and other husbandry concerns will be discussed, and the legal issues surrounding backyard chickens will also be reviewed. Those age 13 and up are welcome, and the attendees can ask questions they have. Everyone will learn about local supports and other resources they may find helpful.
A workshop or learning focused activity may require handouts, registration Forms, promotional Pens and other materials. A brochure printing company will be happy to help.
This opportunity to hit the ground running when it comes to keeping chickens at home will be on offer on January 11th. It will begin at 2:00 pm at 99 N Victor Road, and a ticket booking link has been made available on the Lollypop Farm ticketing website.
