Fairport to discover art of pressed flowers

Whether it is being done to prepare a botanical herbarium sheet, to craft home décor, or simply to preserve a memory, pressing flowers is an artform that has been practiced for hundreds of years, and a Fairport event will bring it into the 21st Century.

Broccolo Garden Center is offering seats in its Pressed Fall Flowers workshop, which will see those who take part transform pressed floral materials into a work of art to take home. Tickets are $35 each and may be reserved in advance.

The facilitator who guides the activity will discuss how to prepare pressed flowers, and the attendees will then use the materials supplied to prepare their piece. They will be taught how to layer them to create a natural look, and if they wish, they will be welcome to bring along embellishments they would like to use such as a printed verse, script, or another addition. The session is for those age 18 and up only.

A crafting class offers a fun way to learn some new skills in a fun atmosphere. Copies of handouts and other materials for an event can be ordered from a printing services company.

Broccolo Garden Center has made arrangements to offer this in-person activity on Saturday, September 28. It will get started at 10:00 am and continue on until 11:30 am.
