Fairport Scouts to have some help earning merit badge

The Scouting program offers kids a wealth of opportunities to learn about the world around them, and a Fairport area venue will be helping its membership earn one of their achievement badges.

The main campus of Lollypop Farm will be the location for a workshop that will help Scouts earn their bird study merit badge. It will take place both indoors and out, and everyone is reminded to dress appropriately for the weather.

The group will learn proper techniques for using their binoculars, as well as the value of using a field notebook, and at the end of the class, they will all be able to identify at least 20 species of birds in the wild. They will prepare bird feeders, discover various bird calls and their meaning, and also the conservation status of avian species and what is being done to protect them.

A birding journal may be a valuable tool for a birder to have. These can be prepared by area printers, and can be paired with promotional Pens so it will be easy to jot down information on the fly.

Lollipop Farm will see Scouts learn about the world of birds on August 5. It is for kids from ages five to nine, and the registration fee is $20 each. Parents or guardians who need more information can visit the Farm’s website.
