Fairport meets October with fest

The people of Fairport are breaking out their steins and strapping on their lederhosen for the 2016 Fairport Oktoberfest. A carryover of the Munich-based German festival, the event will feature food, music, and fun alongside a large amount of beer.

A staple of any such celebration is the food and drink, and the Fairport Perinton Partnership has brought in Swan Market to provide a bevy of traditional German dishes, including sausage, sauerkraut, and schnitzel. A wide array of beers and ales will also be available for purchase during the fest, including several German brands such as Paulaner and Koenig Ludwig.

The Flyers also advertise a wide array of entertainment. Multiple bands will take the stage like the Hohenfels Trombone Quartet, the Fairport Fire Department Oktoberfest Band, and the Genesee Valley Band. The Schuhplattler Verein Heidengold will also come up to perform some traditional German folk dances. Spotlight Studios will present a small retelling of Hansel and Gretel.

A few games will also be played at the event, including beer shuffleboard and a traditional stein-holding contest. A traditional keg tapping ceremony will also be held as part of the festivities.

The Fairport Oktoberfest will take place on September 30 and October 1 at the Fairport Junction Festival Site, just off Liftbridge Lane. Admission is free, though there will be a charge for food, beverages, and games. Anyone interested in attending should visit the website for more info.
