The Fairport Library is looking to help local children engage their brains with The Great Library Breakout. The event combines critical thinking, problem solving, and fun challenges.
The concept of a breakout room is a simple one: a group of people are locked in a room and given one hour to escape. The way out is not a simple one, however. It involves clue finding, puzzle solving, critical thinking, riddle unraveling, and - most importantly - teamwork. A breakout room is often praised as an excellent way to build team spirit and engage a wide array of different thinking skills as groups try to come together to beat the clock.
The Great Library Breakout will offer an appropriate level for children aged seven to twelve, using riddles and problems that come either from the school curriculum or from general knowledge that kids in this age range should have. One of the labs will be sectioned off for the event and filled with clues hidden behind Banners and mysteries locked within drawers. Afterwards, the group will have a photo op to celebrate its success at successfully breaking out.
The Great Library Breakout will be held on November 11 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at the Fairport Public Library, located at 1 Fairport Village Landing. Admission is free, but preregistration is required. Anyone interested should contact the library directly.
