Fishing encourages physical activity and spending time outdoors, and a Fairport event may be just the tonic to encourage kids to take up the pastime for themselves.
Youngsters between ages of 6 to 15 have been offered an opportunity to attend the 22nd annual Fishing Derby that will cast off in Perinton Park. An adult must accompany each participant, and both residents and non-residents may sign up.
The registrants will need to supply their own gear and bait for the morning, and it will be a catch-and-release activity. Food will be on offer, and prizes will be awarded to the top fishers. While they have fun, the kids will also learn about environmental stewardship.
Fishing derbies and angling tournaments offer a fun way for fishers to show off their skills, learn some new ones, and also meet others who also enjoy the hobby. Award certificates, customized Corporate Gifts for prizes, and other personalized items for an activity can be prepared by a local Print shop.
This Fairport activity is planned with its younger fishers in mind, and it will begin at 9:00 am on Saturday, June 3. Further details about the derby are available on the Town of Perinton website. The function is being hosted thanks to support from the Knights of Columbus, and will run for two hours.
