A field trip to the High Acres Nature Area (HANA) in Fairport will be happening next month. All birdwatchers, whether novice or experienced, are asked to register in advance for this event.
More than 130 species of birds have been documented at HANA, with over 70 species nesting at the conservatory. Watchers can expect to see about 40 different species during the field trip in April.
The event will cover approximately 250 acres of HANA over the course of a two-mile hike. Waterproof boots or shoes will be required to traverse some of the marshy, wet areas.
This is a free event for Rochester Birding Association (RBA) members. Membership costs $25 for the year, and includes field trips, subscription to the RBA’s ‘Little Gull’ newsletter, and monthly meetings. The newsletter is available electronically and in printed format, with professional printing services often used by organizations to create Copies of the latter.
The RBA website has many downloadable resources for bird lovers, including a tip sheet for beginners, photo galleries, a guide to creating a bird sanctuary in a backyard, and how to help a lost or injured baby bird. There are also online classes and established bird cameras to view.
The Fairport HANA field trip will be held on Saturday April 17, from 8:00 to 11:00 AM. Registration opens on April 10 on Eventbrite. HANA is located at 554 Perinton Parkway, with trip leaders meeting attendees east of the nearby Waste Management offices, in the Perinton Parkway parking lot.
