The 31st annual Carifest is returning to Western New York early next month. It is a presentation of the Rochester West Indian Festival Organization and the City of Rochester.
The main draw of most Caribbean festivals is the costume parade, and this one will be no different. Anyone is welcome to register to take part in the parade, which will feature stunning costumes, music and floats. The deadline to register to take part is July 20 and the cost is $45. Participants will also be competing for prizes, and winners will be chosen based on creativity, discipline and theme.
The parade will be followed by an afternoon-long family festival. There will be lots of Caribbean foods to try, along with musical entertainment and commercial vendors. One of the performers that have been confirmed to appear is the reggae band Inner Circle. There will also be children's activities such as a bounce house and face painting.
Everyone who attends will get the souvenir journal, which will feature advertisements from various local businesses.
This event will probably attract people from all over, including nearby Fairport. To ensure as many people know about it as possible, organizers may invest in flyer printing services.
Carifest will take place on August 8 at Brown Square Park. The parade, which begins at 11:00 am, will travel along East Main Street and Liberty Pole Way. Call 585-234-0909 to get more information.
