Jackie Sileo, a Wantagh native and lacrosse player, has been nominated as a 2014 NCAA Woman of the Year.
Meghan McNamara, the head coach for LIU Post women’s lacrosse who lives in East Northport, said in a statement that she was proud of Sileo for being amongst the nominees.
Sileo competed as a starter in every game of the current season for her team. She was the leader for assists in NCAA Division II, as well as points, and helped her squad appear in the National Semifinals for Division II. She was the highest goal-scorer for the team, including two game winning goals, and collected more than 20 ground balls along the way. Sileo currently holds the title of leading point-scorer in the history of NCAA women’s lacrosse.
Sileo’s lacrosse accomplishments are not the only things she could add to future business card printing. According the LIU Post Pioneers website, she has served in the Psi Chi Honor Society and the Chi Sigma Iota Society in both of the last two years, while participating in a number of volunteer projects across Long Island. She is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling while keeping up a 4.0 GPA.
The award will be handed out to the chosen woman on October 19 at an annual ceremony held in Indianapolis.
