A group of rescuers from the East Northport Fire Department were recently recognized for their efforts in saving a life.
The rescue crew captain and EMT Thomas Bourne, along with team members Marilyn Resch, Charlie Maury, and Vincent Pastore were awarded EMS medals by the East Northport Fire chiefs. In addition to this, the crew was presented with Pre Hospital Save Awards by the Suffolk Regional Emergency Medical Services Council back in January.
The act for which the EMTs and firefighters were being lauded occurred last November, when a call came in to the East Northport Fire Department Rescue Squad about a woman who had collapsed outside the IGA Shopping Centre at Larkfield and Clay Pitts Roads. Responders arrived at the scene and found the 58-year-old female lying prone on the ground and confirmed that she was in cardiac arrest. They immediately began to perform CPR and provided advanced life support until she could be transported to Huntington Hospital for urgent medical care. Thanks to the actions of the rescue squad, she survived the heart attack and was able to recover and eventually be released.
