The East Northport Public Library provides the county with a variety of services, activities, and supports, and it will be partnering with local police for a special upcoming event.
The lobby of the library will be the location for a medication takeback day. It is being offered in partnership with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office and the Northport Police Department, and will ensure that any expired or unused medication will be disposed of properly.
The takeback station will be open for three hours, and both prescription and over-the-counter medications can be dropped off. There will be no questions asked and no personal information will be collected. The organizers remind the public that only medicines in pill form can be accepted, and request that they be put in plastic Bags.
While sharp items cannot be dropped off at the collection event, there are sites around the community that will take them. The Adult Services Librarian will be on hand to supply printed maps of places that accept medical sharps. Stationery printers can prepare Copies of any handouts required for an activity like this.
This step in keeping the local community safe will be set up at the Library on Wednesday, September 18, and it will run from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Any questions can be directed to 631-261-6930.
