A resident of East Northport was recently recognized for her efforts in helping local veterans obtain the benefits that have been put in place to help them.
Rogerlyn Cipriano first organized Angels for Warriors back in 2012. She got the idea after seeing that her brother, Sargent Angel Velez, was having issues with receiving benefits after being injured after serving in both Iraq and Afghanistan. She decided to help others who might be having similar problems. Her brother wanted to lend his talents to the organization as well, and he took on the role of its executive director.
According to Legislator Steve Stern, the group has done outstanding work and has made a real difference in the lives of those who have served their country, and he noted that he wished to thank them for all their efforts. Brochures can be distributed to veterans who might be able to make use of the help that can be provided.
Angels for Warriors works to provide essential resources and guidance to military members and their families as they return to civilian life. This includes assisting with employment, legal services health care, housing, and education. It is made up of attorneys from the local area who provide their services either free of charge or at a reduced rate, to veterans who need a helping hand in arranging to receive their benefits.
