The honor of AP Honor Roll School District was recently given to the Northport-East Northport School District by the College Board for its efforts in increasing the number of Advanced Placement (AP) classes it offers and also having a greater percentage of students who earned a three or higher on the Advanced Placement exams.
The town of East Northport is most likely using poster printing and flyer printing to make the parents, students, and residents of the community aware of this recognition of academic achievement in the school district.
According to a statement from the College Board, being recognized for this honor means that a district which has an AP program is able to successfully identify those students who are academically prepared and motivated and are most likely to benefit from AP coursework, which is very rigorous.
This recognition was given to seven districts on Long Island in New York (of which Northport-East Northport was one), more than 30 in the state of New York, and 539 throughout Canada and the United States.
In order to become an AP Honor Roll School District, there are several criteria a school district has to meet over a three-year period. Access to and participation in AP courses needs to increase by 11% in small school districts, 6% in districts of medium size, and 4% in larger school districts. The percentage of American Indian/Alaska, Hispanic/Latino, and African-American students should not decrease over that period of time and the percentage of students achieving a 3 or higher should also show an increase over the three years.
