East Northport prepares for 2021 Polar Plunge

A new year often means a fresh start, and East Northport residents who are brave enough to take the plunge will kick it off in a way that will make their teeth chatter.

The Northport New Year's Day Polar Plunge, which is organized thanks to the efforts of Boy Scout Troop 410, will once again be hitting the waters off Steers Beach on Eaton’s Neck Road. Whether they choose to take a dip or just cheer on the swimmers from the shore, everyone is welcome, and all are asked to bring along a generous donation for the Northport Food Pantry.

Once they have registered to take the plunge, the bathers will be able to mingle and build up their courage to take on the cold. At noon, they will make their way into the water with some running right back out again and others choosing to stay and take a proper dip. Warming tents, changing rooms, and refreshments will all be available, and it is free to get involved.

Fun aside, events like this have a higher purpose, and making sure they are well marketed will aid in maximizing their impact. Print shops can be called upon to help.

The 2021 Northport New Year’s Day Polar Plunge will be offering a chilly start to the year on January 1. Registration will open at 10:00 am.
