East Northport native scores soccer award

Kristin Desmond, a Hofstra freshman soccer player, was named Rookie of the Week by the Colonial Athletic Association at the start of September.

Desmond has started during each of the three games she has played with Hofstra, and had a four-year career in high school at East Northport. As with any sports team, some fans may choose to invest in poster printing to cheer on their favorite high-achieving players.

Desmond usually plays as a defender, but her contributions in the games were both offensive and defensive, since she also facilitated a goal made by Amber Stobbs.

In her high school career, she scored 46 goals and posted 18 assists. In 2013, she won the title of Long Island Player of the Year after scoring 19 goals and posting seven assists. In 2012, she was named the Suffolk County Player of the Year after scoring 24 goals, and leading her team to a Long Island championship. She was named as #119 in Top Drawer Soccer’s top-150 prep player list, and was called the nation’s 36th best midfielder.

Hofstra University states that the goal of its Department of Intercollegiate Athletics involves sponsoring a broad-based athletics program, positively reflecting the values and interests of the administration, students, faculty, friends, and alumni who support its various initiatives.
