East Northport invited to take the plunge

The Smithtown Historical Society has put out a call to anyone brave enough to take a dunk in the icy waters near East Northport and be a part of this year’s Polar Bear Plunge.

Those who sign up to take part in this quick dip into the cold will be gathering at Long Beach in Nissequogue before they take the plunge. Participants can wear a swimsuit or other clothing, and some may even choose to turn up decked out in costume. The event is planned as a fun get-together with lots of socializing, and hot drinks will be served to the crowd to help take the chill off. T-Shirts and other branded ad specialties can be prepared to give out to everyone who participates in an occasion like this to thank them for their support.

The registration fee for this activity will be $25, and people can register themselves or make a donation in the name of someone they know who will be participating. The proceeds from the day will be utilized by the Smithtown Historical Society, which is a group that works to preserve the history of Long Island. The Smithtown Parks Department and the Nissequogue Fire Department have both lent their support to the event.

The Polar Bear Plunge will be taking place on Long Beach on January 7, and everyone is encouraged to enjoy a cold but fun day with the daring. More details can be obtained by contacting the society through its website.
