An event was recently held to celebrate both the lifetime contributions made by Robert Kruger to the communities of Northport and East Northport, and also the facility that was rededicated in his honor.
A grand opening ceremony, complete with a ribbon cutting, free gala concert, and reception, marked the rededication of the renovated auditorium at the Northport High School. It will now be known as the Robert W Kruger Center for the Performing Arts.
More than 600 different musicians from the high school and surrounding community took part in the concert, which celebrated the long career of Mr. Kruger, who was the area’s first Director of Music Education. He went on to eventually receive a place in the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.
Performances were given by the high school’s jazz band, along with the Northport Community Jazz Band and a range of music and dance-oriented groups from inside and outside of the school. After the musical portion of the celebration, there was a reception for those who wished to take part.
School officials noted that they hope that the revamped facility will continue to encourage an interest in music and performing arts and promote lifelong learning in these areas.
