The Huntington Arts Council is running its Journey Program for another year, and students in East Northport schools will be taking part in an exhibition entitled ‘High Arts Showcase XI’.
In part of this year’s agenda, artwork prepared by area grade 11 and 12 students will be on display in the Main Street Gallery, and will include works by students from Huntington, Harborfields, Northport/East Northport, South Huntington Commack, and Plainview Old Bethpage.
The Journey Program, which partners area schools to bring art into the classroom at all grade levels, is designed to promote cultural understanding and diversity through various artistic media. It also brings different artists into the schools to give presentations and talk with the students about the pieces they create, as well as their inspiration for doing so. Poster printing companies can also help to bring art into the classroom by producing large prints of the artists’ works for display in the schools.
Awards of Excellence will be given out to some of those who take part, and the exhibit is open to the general public Monday to Friday from 9:00 pm until 6:00 pm, and on Saturdays from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm. It will be the 11th year for the showcase, and the works will be available for public viewing until March 3.
