The East Northport Fire Department recently held an event that allowed the public to have a chance to get to see, up close and personal, what it does on a day-to-day basis, while at the same time learning about fire safety.
The open house, which was held on a Friday, took place at the firehouse located at Lakefield Road and One Ninth Avenue. There was an opportunity to see the inner workings of the firehouse and vehicles, and also to watch several demonstrations.
The first responders demonstrated how they use the jaws of life to help them save people who are trapped in a car wreck, as well as live drills involving the smoke house, a stove fire, and a dryer fire, as well as a presentation by fire police. Sparky the Fire Dog was on hand to greet the kids, and they could even have their pictures taken with him.
Along with this, there was information given about how to prevent fires and also what to do if someone is caught in one, as well as how to provide emergency medical assistance.
