As part of its efforts to encourage people to donate blood, residents of East Northport and other communities in the local area are asked to be generous and pay a visit to one of the donation clinics that will be held throughout the month of February.
In release, William R. Spencer, M.D., who is a legislator for Suffolk County, pointed out that the winter can be a difficult time for blood banks. There can be an increase in demand, while bad weather can cause local blood drives to either be poorly attended or canceled altogether.
He asked people to consider that their donation can help to save three lives and make sure that no shortages occur.
Those who wish to donate at one of the upcoming clinics need to be at least 17 years of age, though those who have parental consent can be 16. Their weight has to be at least 110lb and they need to feel that they are healthy the day of their donation.
Donors need to be able to allot 30-45 minutes of time to give blood and they also have to be in possession of a valid photo ID. Promotional Products, such as lapel pins, are sometimes given to donors at drives to thank them and spread awareness.
Upcoming blood drives will be held on February 8 at Countrywood Primary Center in Huntington Station, February 18 at Harborfields Public Library in Greenlawn, February 21 at United Universalist Fellowship in Huntington, and February 22 at Signature Premier Properties in Huntington.
