East Northport is an area with a rich history, and this will be the focus of an activity exploring the past of the Northport Business District.
Dan Sheehan will be sharing his knowledge of the area’s past to registrants in the Parading Down Main Street walking tour, which is on the way later this month. It is suitable for all ages and is being presented to the community by the Northport Historical Society.
Sheehan will be leading the group on an exploration of the Northport business district and the people and landmarks that have come to call it home. Some, such as writer Jack Kerouac, will be well known, while others will be more obscure. The group will walk at a leisurely pace with frequent stops, and the run time for the session is two hours. The registration fee for the activity is $7, although additional donations to the Historical Society are gratefully received.
A walking tour gives both locals and visitors a glimpse into the past of a community. Organizers often ask the participants to sign a safety waiver before they head out, and these may be prepared by a company that crafts Letterheads and other business documents.
This sneak peek into the past of Northport and the surrounding communities is set for Sunday, June 25. Registrants will meet up at 215 Main Street at 1:30 pm before they head out.
