East Northport area getting ready to take the plunge

A popular East Northport area annual event has had to be rescheduled, but the Troop 410 Polar Bear Swim will soon be back for another year.

This will be the ninth year for the icy occasion, which will be held at Steers Beach. It is being offered through the efforts of Northport Fire Department Smokeaters and other local business sponsors, and is part of the ‘Scouting for Food’ program administered by the Boy Scouts of America.

The proceeds of the swim will be donated to the Ecumenical Lay Council Food Pantry, which provides food and other support for families and individuals in need in Centerport, East Northport, and Northport. Those who would like to lend a hand can choose to sponsor a swimmer or brave the cold themselves.

The support of local businesses will also be appreciated, and it will help to maximize the impact of the day’s activities. One of the sponsorship opportunities is to act as a T-shirt sponsor, and companies that choose this option will have their logo and name printed on the back of the event’s official T-Shirts. Promotional Products such as this can be produced by an area printer.

The swimmers will be taking to the ocean on March 18, and they will be hitting the water at 12:00 pm. More information, as well as a chance to learn more about the occasion, the sponsors, and to register to participate can be found on the Troop 410 Swim website.
