East Northport boaters who want to take the extra step when it comes to safety on the water may want to consider signing up for a class that will teach them what to do should a person fall overboard.
The organizers of Neptune Boating Club’s “Man Overboard” training session noted that people can fall overboard for a variety of reasons, especially in bad weather. This can make knowing what to do an essential part of boating safety, and this class will show them the steps to take.
During the session, students will be taught how to recover a person who has fallen off a boat as well as what equipment should be on hand for this sort of emergency. They will find out how to maneuver their craft so they can be close to the person who is in the water, as well as various methods that they can use to rescue them.
There are spaces for up to 25 pupils in this class, and it will be taking place at the Halesite Volunteer Fire Department. Each learner will receive a full-color student guide, and Print shops can supply these sorts of bound learning materials.
The registration fee for the Man Overboard class is $20. It has been scheduled for the evening of February 5.
