An East Northport area park is a popular spot for area birdwatchers to pursue their hobby, and those who are new to the activity are welcome to join the group.
Sagamore Hill National Historic Site has made arrangements to host an interactive workshop that will provide an introduction to birdwatching. It will be led by a park ranger, and no experience is needed to participate.
The group will gather at the site before they head out, and as they go, they will learn about using binoculars, how to utilize a field guide, and also how they can play a role in conservation by participating in citizen science projects. It was noted that the program was developed so that it can be helpful to birders who are just starting out.
The planners remarked that there are a limited number of both field guides and binoculars available at the park, and anyone who has access to their own has been asked to bring them along. They are reminded to wear footwear that is comfortable for walking, as well as weather-appropriate clothing, and it has also been suggested that they bring along a bottle of water or other drink.
This introduction to the art of birdwatching is open to any who are interested. Local Stationery printers can produce simple field guides for an event like this that includes the species most commonly encountered.
Birding for Beginners has been planned for the morning of November 23. Anyone who is interested has been asked to register ahead of time.
