Those who live in Murray Hill will soon have access to faster public transit during some of the peak hours for its ridership.
Starting in 2017, the MTA will offer a new F express train service in the area. According to the city council, as many as half a million people make use of the this train line on a frequent basis, and the express train will run during both the morning and evening rush hours.
The route will run between Church Avenue and Jay Street - Metro Tech, which will cut a significant amount of time off of the daily commute for many riders, with some reaching their destinations as much as 15 minutes faster than they do now. The number of trains will stay the same, with some being designated local and some express.
The service had been available up until 1987, when the decision was made to end it. Residents have been asking for it to be reinstated ever since. According to Borough Park Councilman David Greenfield, the current local service can be quite slow, and he feels the new and faster option would be welcomed by many. Brochures with details about upgrades to public transit can be used to help let the public know the new routes, schedules and more.
