Brighton Beach session helps city get greener

People often walk by tree pits, medians and sidewalk edges without giving them a second glance, but a Brighton Beach workshop will show how they can all be transformed into thriving green spaces.

Instructor Shanti Nagel will show how it's possible to turn even tiny patches into “mini gardens” that can benefit the natural and human worlds alike. Pre-registration is required to participate in the “Greening Sidewalks and Streetscapes” class, and it will be split into two parts.

During the classes, Shanti will introduce the basics of urban horticultural design, including tips for caring for these small plantings. The students will find out what makes city life tough for plants and how to mitigate these factors, and advice for working with limited and depleted soils, suitable native plant choice, watering and navigating any applicable city regulations will be shared. Some previous gardening experience will be helpful, and the session is for anyone who is interested.

The registration fee for this learning activity is $111 with a discount available for Brooklyn Botanic Garden members. Registration Forms, data recording sheets and lists of tips for plant care are some of what Stationery printers can prepare for a horticulturally focused activity.

This chance to find out how to invite Mother Nature into urban spaces is scheduled for March 17th and 24th. Both sessions will be held at Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
