A Brighton Beach area venue that comes alive at night has planned an activity that will introduce these nocturnal creatures.
The Brooklyn Botanic Garden offers the public opportunities to connect with nature, and it has organized a continuing education class that will put moths and other night fliers in the spotlight. It's open to those age 12 and up, but minors must be accompanied by an adult.
The participants in the activity will be working outdoors in small groups for this hands-on activity, and they will set up moth tents before taking a guided walk through the venue to visit nighttime pollinators in action. After this they will return to the tents to see what insects have been caught, which will then be released back into the garden without being harmed. The registration fee starts at $50.00, and it opens on August 4th.
Hands-on nature based activities can make learning fun, and they may also help the participants develop a greater understanding and appreciation of the world around them. Species check lists and record sheets, field guides, promotional Pens and other custom designed items for an in person event can be ordered from a locally based Print company.
Brooklyn Botanic Garden will be exploring its night side on September 2nd, with Ashleigh Hillen serving as its facilitator. The rain date will be September 9th, and it will start at 7:00 pm.
