Reno workshop to create well-informed weed warriors

A two-day workshop will be offered in Reno that will explore the topic of noxious weeds in depth, and it is geared towards those who work in the horticultural industry.

The University of Nevada Extension Offices in Reno and Gardnerville will both be hosting the training sessions, and they will be live for Reno and over video teleconferencing for Gardnerville. To receive a certificate of completion, the attendees must participate in both days.

Those in the short course will learn how to identify 16 noxious weeds in the field, and they will learn about the laws that apply to weed control and the use of herbicides and other pesticides. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques will be discussed, and those who complete the workshop and have a currently valid certified pesticide applicator card are reminded to bring it along.

The fee to register for the class is $35, and this include the cost of supplies, including a binder of information and other resources. These can be prepared by area Print shops ahead of an event like this so that they will be ready to give to each person who registers for this sort of learning opportunity.

This short course will be held on May 16 and 17. It will be offered live at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension office in Reno.
