Reno kids invited to learn how to build a ladybug home

Reno kids who would like to invite some horticultural helpers to their own yard are encouraged to sign up for a class that will teach them how to build a ladybug house, and all of the materials needed will be supplied.

Moana Nursery Garden Center has planned an activity for children that will give them some hands-on experience in environmental stewardship. They will use bamboo rods, glue, and a wood box to build a place for ladybugs to call home, and with a little bit of luck, a family of these colorful beetles will choose to move in.

While the students work on completing their project, they will discover how these small
creatures are voracious predators of aphids and other plant pests, both as adults and when they are just ‘baby bugs’. The organized explained that the workshop will be best suited to kids who are between the ages of 5 and 12, and when the event is over, they will all be able to take their ladybug house home with them.

In an effort to accommodate as many children as possible, the planners of the class are offering both a morning and afternoon timeslot. If the children who take part in a project like this are provided with basic bug guides, they will be able to identify the insects that choose to take up residence the houses they have built, and stationery printers can supply items like these.

Moana Nursery will be hosting this kids’ activity on Sunday, June 23. Tickets are $8.
