Opportunity on offer for Reno child care professionals

The Children’s Cabinet of Northern Nevada is offering a short course in Reno that will approach an important topic from several perspectives, and this no cost event will be on offer this February.

Childcare providers can be invaluable “watchdogs” when it comes to recognizing, reporting and also preventing child abuse and neglect. Instructor Deborah Pontius MSN, RN, NCSN and FNASN, will be the facilitator for the class, and those who take part may qualify for up to two Nevada Registry hours. It may be particularly useful to childcare providers who wish to make sure they provide the best service they can to their clients.

The class will explore the four recognized types of child abuse a childcare professional may encounter, and the students will also find out what to do should they suspect a boy or girl in their care is being abused or neglected. Along with this, the group will discuss ways they can respond to a disclosure made by a child.

As well as the other topics that will be reviewed during the workshop, there will be time spent on creating policies for a childcare program that can ensure all its charges are safe. Documents that outline these policies and other information for parents to review and sign can be created by Stationery printers, and samples of these can be distributed to the learners who take part in this sort of function.

The Children’s Cabinet, found at 1090 South Rock Boulevard, has scheduled this course for the evening of February 10. It is set to run from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
