People from around the world recently came together in Albuquerque for the largest celebration of Native American culture in the world.
The Gathering of Nations marked its 32nd year on April 24 with representatives form 700 tribes from across North America. Around 800 vendors were on hand to sell their products and feed the hungry crowd with food that ranged from contemporary Southwestern style food to more traditional native dishes. There was also live entertainment provided by thousands of singers and dancers and musicians. The Grand Entry was held on Friday at noon.
The festival provided a welcome boost for the local economy, with most hotel, motel, and other types of lodging being fully booked, with as many as 100,000 people coming out to the city to take part. The event usually brings in as much as $20m into the city.
