People will have an opportunity to hear from a famous poet during a tour at the Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage in Somerville.
The Living History Visit is an experience where people can learn about important historic figures by meeting and interacting with a live portrayal of them. The upcoming program will be about Phillis Wheatley, a woman who was taken from West Africa as an enslaved person when she was seven. She is a notable poet who has written and published pieces on morality. Wheatley also met with Benjamin Franklin and impressed George Washington with a poem that she dedicated to him.
Playing the role of Phillis Wheatley will be Dr. Daisy Century, a historical educator and writer who went to South Carolina State University and Temple University. She has appeared at several notable venues, including the Sojourner Truth House and the Theodore Roosevelt National Historic Site. Other historical figures Century has impersonated include Harriet Tubman, Madam CJ Walker, and Cathy Williams.
The educational program will be held on Sunday, April 23 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. There is no cost to see Century’s performance, though attendees may register for the presentation in advance. Organizations that offer similar informative programs to this may use flyer printing services to advertise their future lessons to consumers in their community.
