Residents in Somerville and the surrounding areas are taking a look back towards the past for the Weekend Journey Through the Past.
The event takes a
look at a number of sites throughout the area, with games, demonstrations, and more.
The journey will take place in 26 total historical sites spread throughout not only Somerville township, but also the whole of Somerville County. The county tourism board has provided a Guided Tour booklet printing that can also be downloaded as a .pdf file. The book divides the sites into three different tours running through Northern, Central and Southern Somerville, with a scenic route that connects all three together.
The tours include places such as the Brook Theatre, the Van Horne House, and the Old Millstone Forge Blacksmith Shop. Many of the sites have history going back to the Revolutionary War, highlighting why Somerville has received the moniker ‘Crossroads of the American Revolution’.
For visitors wanting more of a challenge, a detective activity named ‘What in the World is That?’ has been created. Twenty-six mysteries have been provided with the Official Investigative Task Booklet that pair with various special exhibits and tours on the journey. Participants will have to try to figure out what the special item is, and will find a special ‘Detective Sticker’ if they picked the correct one.
The Weekend Journey Through the Past will take place on October 8 and 9 at various locations around Somerville. The cost for all sites is free. Anyone looking for more information should visit the website.
