People in Somerville are being asked to show generosity to those in their community who may need help but not know where to turn.
The Visiting Nurse Association of central New Jersey is holding another Seasons of Hope program. It has done so for the past 18 years and helped hundreds of individuals and families who need a little something to help them get by.
To do this, the organization gathers the names of those who could use this extra help, and matches them up with an individual, business, or group that would like to “adopt” them. It then prepares a wish list of things that the recipient could use, and the donor provides them, all on an anonymous basis.
This year, there are 740 families on the list. Their names are added by those who work with them directly, including nurses, social workers, and clinicians. Many of the donors’ names are never revealed, even to the organizers of the program. According to Bridget Murphy, who is the organization’s chief philanthropy officer, this is part of what makes it so special.
A team of 35 volunteers works to help make sure everything goes smoothly. The volunteers wrap gifts, record donations, and purchase items using the money donated. Business Forms can be specially designed to help them in their work.
The program kicked of this year’s season back in September, but people can still help. They are invited to contact Pauline De Palma at 732-224-6933 to find out how they can adopt a family.
