Somerville program to teach native plant gardening

The library in Somerville will invite a speaker to give a presentation on native plant gardening in March.

Intro to Native Plant Gardening is an event where people can discover how to create landscapes that benefit the local environment. The class is an interactive experience where people can ask their questions about cultivating their own native-friendly gardens.

The event will be led by Jason Goldman, a garden designer for the organization Flower to the People. He is also a park naturalist for Monmouth County Park System and attended Rutgers University. Educational events such as this can be marketed to library patrons with help from flyer printing services.

Flower to the People is a company that designs environmentally friendly gardens for clients. The organization helps people find appropriate native plants to use in their landscape designs. The plants used by Flower to the People can attract pollinators to their customer yards, such as the Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly, American Goldfinch, and bumblebees. There are many themes offered by the organization, including Sensory Gardens, Vegetable Gardens, and Herb Gardens.

The introduction to native gardening will be offered on Saturday, March 8th from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Registration for the course will open on January 25th. Goldman’s class will be held at the Somerville branch of the Somerset County Library System. Adults are the intended audience for his course.
