Somerville landmark to celebrate county event

The Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage in Somerville will be holding two environmental activities in October.

King Trees & Queen Bees is a two-day program organized by the Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Association. The event is part of Somerset County's Weekend Journey Through the Past and will be held both indoors and outside.

People can visit George Washington's winter headquarters to learn about local trees. The program will also teach attendees about how beeswax candles were created and have reproduction skeps that were for beekeeping on display. Organizations in charge of history-themed activities similar to these may use flyer printing to get locals interested in participating.

The Wallace House was built in 1775 and was the biggest house built in the state during the Revolutionary War. The Old Dutch Parsonage was created in 1751 and was home to John Frelinghuysen. Many events are hosted at the two buildings, including Dress Up in Colonial Clothing Day and George Washington's Birthday Party. People can become a member of the Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Association for $30 per person or $40 per family.

The King Trees & Queen Bees will take place from October 8th to October 9th and will start at 10:00 am. People can visit the historic site and enjoy both events for free. No registration is needed for either program.
