Somerville jazzed for festival

Residents in Somerville are getting ready for the Central New Jersey Jazz Festival. The all-day concert is part of a three-day music event that promises plenty of jazz entertainment and food to go with it.

The overall festival takes place on three different days in three different cities: Flemington, New Brunswick, and Somerville. The governments in each city decided to get together and pool their resources to put together something larger than they could manage alone. The result is the largest such event in the area, bringing in 12 different artists from all around New Jersey and New York.

Somerville will have five acts playing on their day: the Javon Jackson Quartet, singer Vanessa Rubin, the Isaiah J. Thompson Quintet, Bobby Sanabria and Quarteto Ache, and local community organization the Jazz House Kids. The performances will be held outdoors, so attendees will have to bring blanket, towel, lawnchair, or some other form of seating.

In addition to the music, a food drive will also be held in all three cities. Visitors are encouraged to bring a can of food or some other form of nonperishable to donate at the event. The Verve restaurant will also set up a wine and beer garden with a lunch menu, and Tapastre will have a craft beer garden.

The Central New Jersey Jazz Festival will be held in Somerville on September 18 from 1:00 to 6:00 pm at the Somerset County Courthouse Green. Admission is free to the public. Anyone interested in more information should check the Flyers or visit the website.
