Somerville historic landmark to hold one-woman play

The Wallace House in Somerville will host a play in November about the life of Hulda of Bohemia.

Hulda: The Other Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a performance where people can learn about Hulda of Bohemia, a woman shunned from society because she was labeled as a witch doctor. The play's story is a fictionalized look into Hulda's life and the friendship she had with an enslaved African girl named Abby. The outdoor performance is part of the Early Black American Women in Words series and is sponsored by the Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Association.

The star of the play is Carla Lynne Hall, and the original musical score of the performance is performed by her husband, Jim Keyes. Hall and Keyes are also the writers of the play. The duo has written many original shows, such as Liss: Slave, Servant, Spy, and Ona's Interview: The True Story of George Washington's Runaway Slave. Hall and Keyes also offer songwriting workshops that teach students the basics of lyric and melody writing.

The one-woman show will be held on Sunday, November 5th from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. The performance is free for the community to attend. The activity is held outdoors, so guests are asked to bring a personal blanket to sit on during the show. Organizations hosting programs like this may use poster printing to advertise their performances.
