Music lovers of Somerville and the surrounding areas are looking forward to the Central Jersey Symphony Orchestra's Horn Fest. The event features performances of many different classical pieces with a brassy ensemble.
Though often considered the more bombastic and least subtle of the instrument sections in a symphony, the horn section has a long tradition in musical history and carries a wide variety of sounds. The orchestra for the fest will be made only of horns and will perform a large array of notable pieces such as Siegfried Idyll by Richard Wagner, Horn Concerto No. 1 by Franz Strauss, and Symphony No. 101 by Franz Joseph Haydn.
The concert is being directed by Michael Avagliano and features the talents of Lisa Nettleship. Nettleship is a professional musician who has a Bachelor's degree in French Horn and works as principal hornist for many orchestras in the New Jersey and Pennsylvania area. She also runs a local music studio in New Jersey. A booklet printing with the program and information about the pieces will be included with admission.
Horn Fest will be held on February 26 starting at 3:00 pm at the United Reform Church, located at 100 Main St. Admission is $25 for general, $20 for seniors, and $15 for students. Anyone interested in more info should visit the website.
