She has undertaken work alongside promotoras, who are Hispanic/Latino health workers. They are taught to help neighbors get basic education in health and better access to health resources. D’Alonzo created activity classes led by the promotras to improve health and fitness among immigrant Latinas. The study ultimately identified mental health issue that were influencing the ability of some Hispanic women to participate in healthy physical activity.
