Children in and around Somerville can explore nature, as Duke Farms prepares to host a series of workshops called Junior Naturalists.
Each month, school-aged children in kindergarten through sixth grade, along with their parents, can learn more about habitats throughout the year. The workshops will take place indoors and then participants will take to the great outdoors for field work.
The first workshop will cover trees in relation to fall. During the session, kids will discover why leaves change colors, and also develop tree identification skills. It will take place on October 11.
The second session will focus on turkeys. Participants will learn about a turkey’s diet, habitat, and family life. Kids will also be taught how to make a turkey call. This session will be held on November 15.
The final session will be held on December 13 and will discuss evergreens. Students will learn how to tell the difference between several coniferous trees. In addition, they will investigate how evergreens survive during the winter.
A Stationery printing service probably created educational handouts, such as diagrams and worksheets, to be used during the workshops.
The three-part series costs $15 and registration can be completed on the Duke Farms website. An adult should accompany every child.
Each workshop will take place from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. Duke Farms is located on 1112 West Dukes Parkway in Hillsborough Township. Get a Free Quote for Stationery
