Aspiring gardeners in and around Somerville can attend a program designed to mentor individuals throughout the growing season.
The Community Seeds Program Series will include workshops that will educate individuals on how to plan a garden and save seeds. Later, the saved seeds can be shared with members in the program.
The program will kick off with ‘The Art and Practice of Seed Saving: An Introduction to Seed Saving’. Here, attendees will learn about seed saving and also learn of such gardening basics as pollination methods and seed harvesting.
After this first workshop, there will be a planning meeting at which group members will meet, pick up their seeds and plants, and be given seed saving instructions. Stationery printers were probably asked to create informational handouts such as planting instructions and saving tutorials.
Future workshops will include topics like sowing, setting, gathering, and cleaning seeds, along with pollination and maintenance tips.
The first class will begin on April 4 from 9:00 am until 11:30 am. The seed saving meeting will take place from 12:30 pm until 2:30 pm. Subsequent classes will occur once a month until the program culminates in November.
The entire series costs $120 and $100 for community garden members.
Duke Farms is located on 1112 Dukes Parkway. Workshops will take place in the farm barn classroom, the community garden, or both locations.Get a Free Quote for Stationery
