Newark to open new public schools next fall

The Board of Education in Newark has announced that there will be new options for public school in Newark come next fall.

The Newark School of Global Studies and Sir Isaac Newton Elementary School will be replacing Webster Junior High School and the Newton Street School, respectively, both of which are unoccupied. The School of Global Studies will focus on fluency in Chinese or Arabic and immerse students in a foreign culture, enabling them to exchange ideas using advanced technology. Superintendent Roger Leon added that education is transforming in a way that allows an ethnically diverse student body to meet in a school where there are no borders.

There will be three internal academies in the school. The focus of these academies will be on the humanities, international business, and diplomacy with the goal of developing an education in global studies, thus empowering students to make career choices for the rest of their lives. Students choosing the Chinese track will have the chance to pursue international business, while those selecting Arabic will be on the diplomacy path. More information such selection of pathways can be provided through flyer printing services.

Students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade will be able to attend Sir Isaac Newton Elementary School, but the initial enrollments will be for pre-kindergarten through first grade. Leon has said there will be three grades, with three classes in each grade.
