Newark to continue with farm and food distribution

A grant of $100,000 has been given to the Greater Newark Conservancy from Prudential Foundation Inc.

Prudential Foundation Inc. is part of Prudential Financial. Conservancy and is involved in philanthropy. Officials from the Conservancy said that the funds will help the organization to continue its food security programs, such as its emergency food distribution effort for COVID relief, and its Hawthorne Avenue Farm. Poster printing services provide an effective way to keep needy residents informed of such programs.

Robin Dougherty, Executive Director of the Greater Newark Conservancy, said that this distinguished gift from Prudential will help with funding the many efforts of the organization and improve the quality of life in the urban communities in New Jersey. Dougherty added that volunteers can now keep their efforts going and will be able to focus on the critical mission of the organization.

The emergency food distribution effort for COVID relief has been delivering fresh produce and food to 600 families and 1,500 seniors every week in Newark since April of last year. Table to Table distributes most of the food. Volunteers for this effort are provided by Jersey Cares and the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School COVID-19 Team.

The Hawthorne Avenue Farm is in the South Ward and spans three acres. It enables families to plant and grow their own fruits, herbs, and vegetables.
