Newark receives funds for community projects

The Economic Development Authority (EDA) of the state of New Jersey has authorized $15.3 million for several projects in Newark.

Among these projects are the purchase of land for the planned expansion of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and two soul food-inspired fine dining projects.

Local Print shops can help spread the news about such projects and their benefits for the community with flyer printing.

The funding will be used by Ablem Food Services to renovate what was once an office building on Market Street to create Melba’s 500. This will be a soul food-inspired fine dining restaurant with 250 seats and a large kitchen to provide services for satellite locations and catering.

The project is expected to create 250 jobs and have a long-term impact on the community. The funding will be used by Delta’s Newark II LLC to renovate an historic bank building and hotel on Borad Street to create a southern soul-food inspired eatery. It will have 110 seats in the restaurant, with a music venue and a rooftop lounge of 120 seats.

An amount of $1.5 million will be given to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) to purchase land to renovate and reuse a former office building for an Episcopal Church.

Located on Mulberry Street, the Cooperman Family Arts Education and Community Center Annex will have community gathering spaces, educational classrooms, and offices for the staff of NJPAC.
