The Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group, Prudential Financial, and L+M Development Partners have signed a lease for 10 years for about 8,700 square feet on the first floor of the building. A founding partner of Ani Ramen House, Luck Sarabhayavanija, expressed his excitement about opening this restaurant in Newark and making the historic Hahne building the new home base for the chain.
This location will be the largest of the Ani restaurants and include not only a 2,500 square foot restaurant, but 1,200 square feet of space for its corporate offices and its first commissary kitchen, where food will be prepared for other restaurants in the chain in Maplewood, Summit, Jersey City, and Montclair. The kitchen will be 5,000 square feet in size.
The restaurant has become known for its vegetarian and chicken ramen broths using artisan Sun Noodles and pork made in-house, as well as its gyoza, bao buns, and other izakaya small plates.
Partners Director for L+M Development, Jake Pine, said that he is thrilled that the historic Hahne & Co. building will become home to some of the best ramen in the region.
