A ribbon-cutting ceremony was recently held for the Grammy Museum Experience Prudential Center in Newark.
The founding executive director of the museum, Bob Santelli, remarked that having this museum is not only rewarding, but, as someone who comes from New Jersey, he is proud to be able to pay back to the state as this is where he started his musical career, and which has the fondest memories for him. He added that it will be a place to celebrate the past and lay the groundwork for future generations.
The Grammy Museum Experience is inside the Prudential Center in Newark and occupies 8,200 square feet.
The museum features the history of music and has many artifacts from music, including items that have been worn by stars like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Michael Jackson. There are also elements of a more interactive nature, including studio time with Wyclef Jean of the Fugees, and a drum lesson from Max Weinberg on how to play the Bruce Springsteen classic ‘Born in the U.S.A.’
There are also elements of a distinctive New Jersey flair that include memorabilia and gear from Dionne Warwick, the Four Seasons, and Frank Sinatra, and several gowns worn by Whitney Houston, who was a native of Newark.
