The Newark Public Schools has selected Juanita Greene, a math teacher at Newark Vocational High School, as its Teacher of the Year for 2023.
Greene has been recognized for her outstanding contributions to personal growth and the academic achievement of the students of the Newark Board of Education. News of such accomplishments is often spread throughout a community with flyer printing.
Greene has been a teacher for close to 27 years, teaching math to students in grades 6 through 12. She has taught in public, private, and charter schools and has also instructed other teachers. She says she especially enjoys interacting with students and finding innovative approaches for understanding math.
Superintendent Roger León said that Greene was chosen among the educators from the individual schools across the district, and then was selected to represent the entire district. León added that Greene represents the meaning of being committed to ensuring that students receive the emotional and academic tools they need to be successful.
President of the board of Education, Asia Norton, said Greene is dedicated to the educational community and is an inspiration for educators in the district.
Newark Vocational principal, Karisa DeSantis, added that Greene always helped others with her abundant knowledge. She described her as a “one-of-a-kind teacher,” who is always kind and has a big heart.
