The Albert Dorman Honors College of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in Newark has received a pledge of $3m from philanthropist John H. Martinson. Never before in its 27-year history has the college received as much as this in one single donation.
The Dean of the Honors College, Louis Hamilton, said that this gift is transformational and will benefit the 650 scholars in the college, as well as close to 300 deans’ scholars at the five other colleges of the university. News about such large donations can be disseminated throughout the city and the surrounding communities with flyer printing.
Hamilton added that the funds will also enable the collage to triple the number of scholars in its Honors Summer Research Institute, add two new educational tracks, add cooperative educational experiences and internships, more than double the number of scholars who study abroad, restructure the offerings of courses, and create new opportunities for faculty affiliations.
A venture capitalist who is now Martinson Ventures’ chairman, Martinson founded Edison Partners in 1986 and has been in the field of finance for 40 years, serving on boards of directors at 80 technology companies. Martinson said that he has been most impressed by the growth in size and national stature of NJIT, and is enthusiastic about the vision and progress of the university.
